TO THE EDITOR:

I'd gladly lean up against the chancellor's car and smoke an entire pack of Luckies if I knew that the fines would create a parking space somewhere on campus. Sadly, I know it wouldn't, and I don't smoke anymore anyway.

So, I have a better, healthier idea to fund such things: Let's fine people that walk slowly and in the middle of the way.

UNC doesn't join calls to lower drinking age

UNC-Chapel Hill has not taken a position on the drinking age, though Duke University and about 100 other universities are asking lawmakers to lower the legal age to 18.

They hope that doing so will discourage binge drinking and promote more open dialogue on alcohol use, creating a safer environment for students.
